We are all amazing parents. Yup, every single one of us. We may not always agree on what our kids should be eating, the best way to get the baby to sleep at night, and let’s not even get into the whole vaccination debate… But we’re all in the deep trenches of parenting together, battling for the same thing – happy and healthy children.
No matter how we’re raising our own families, let’s recognize the fact that parenting can be exhausting, patience-draining, and difficult even on the best of days. It’s easily the most challenging, but thankfully rewarding, thing I’ve ever done. So it’s time to push aside the countless things we disagree on, forget about comparing parenting styles, and celebrate 5 things us amazing parents are doing right for our kids.
We feed them.
Organic or processed, vegan or meat-lover, home-made or store-bought. It seriously doesn’t matter. Are you breast-feeding or formula-feeding your baby? I don’t care. Whether you’re slaving over the stove all day preparing a five course meal, or picking up a frozen pizza on the way home from work, you are feeding your kids. You’re providing a tiny human being with sustenance and they are growing.Do you feed your kid? Then you're an amazing parent! #parenting Click To Tweet
We put their needs before ours.
Most mornings I’ve gotten my daughter dressed and fed before I’ve even made it to the bathroom to pee. In some way or another, we all make tiny sacrifices throughout the day for our kids. Their hunger, thirst, snotty noses, sticky hands, and unfortunately television preferences, are usually addressed before our own.
We clothe them.
Does your child generally leave the house with clothes on? Then congratulations, you’re winning at parenting. Whether their outfit is perfectly coordinated, or they’ve managed to wear every colour of the rainbow, including mismatched socks, they’re dressed and ready to face whatever the day brings.
We teach them.
It’s easy to forget that as parents, we’re teaching our kids the basics of life. How to eat, sleep, walk, and talk. We do our best to teach them manners, how to make friends, and what NOT to say in public. Aside from algebra and biology, we teach them just about everything!
We play with them.
No matter how busy your schedule, we all squeeze in play time with our kids somehow. Spending time with your kids is all they want, and it’s usually a win-win. Whether I’m hiding from imaginary monsters, cooking in her pretend kitchen, or hosting a tea party for my daughter’s stuffies, I’m having fun and so is she.
So don’t worry about all the things you may have done wrong or screwed up, and stop questioning your parenting instincts! We all deserve a pat on the back at the end of each day – and maybe a glass of wine, too : )
