Everyone wants a better body for the summer, but what about a better attitude towards your body? Here are 5 ways to have a positive body image that gives you rock solid self-esteem, drool worthy confidence and gravity-defying fabulousness.
1. Change the dialogue in your head
For every unkind thought about your body image, replace it with two positive ones. For example, replace “I’m fat” with “I’m worthy enough to take up space” and “My curves are delicious.” Have fun with it!
2. Watch your language
Instead of using negative words in relation to your body, find more caring alternatives. For example, “luscious“ instead of ”flabby,” “captivating” instead of “flawed.” Come up with your own words to celebrate your fabulous self.
3. Be nice to other women
Being female is complicated and the last thing we need is attitude from our fellow womenfolk. You know what it’s like to be female, so cut others some slack and be kind: Instead of looking down on other women for their “imperfections,” compliment them using positive language. Treat others as you treat yourself; treat yourself as you treat others.
4. Look at media with a critical eye
We all know that pictures in magazines are airbrushed and most celebrity images are photoshopped before ever making it to the public. Yet we still compare ourselves. Don’t let yourself pick up a magazine or turn on the television without putting on your media filter: Always be critical of the images you see.
5. Get moving
There is no better way to feel good about your body image than to move it! Whether it’s a dance class, a hike in the forest, a bike ride or running around with your children, work up a sweat. Celebrate the amazing things your body can do and you’ll find yourself being less judgemental about how you look.
