It seems like no matter where you live, you’ve probably seen a lot of snow this winter. Like, a lot a lot. In my little southeastern corner of BC we’ve gotten dump after dump of the fluffy white stuff, and will likely continue to get more until we’re well into spring. I’ve always been a snow lover, but I have to admit, the endless driveway shoveling, sketchy driving, and constant need for mittens is starting to wear me down. So I figured, since so many others will be stuck with snow in their lives a little longer, now is as good a time as any to remind myself why I fell in love with snow in the first place.
Snow transforms ugly, barren winter trees into works of art. It creates a soft, cozy looking cover for the jagged and rocky mountains. And just try to tell me you couldn’t spend hours watching those tiny and unique snowflakes as they fall from the sky. Everything looks breathtakingly beautiful when dusted with a layer of freshly fallen snow.
Everything gets quiet
It’s hard to describe, and maybe it’s just my own crazy imagination, but somehow the whole world seems to get quieter when it snows. A hush falls over everything, bringing a sense of peace and calm along with it. Just make sure you’re tuning out the noise of the snowplows, snowblowers, and car engines struggling to start ; )
Who doesn’t love a snow day? Whether you get to skip school or work, everybody loves an excuse to play hooky.
Find yourself a mountain, hillside, or even a deserted street, and go sledding! I don’t care how old you are, you’re going to have fun. Can’t find a toboggan? You’d be surprised how well a garbage bag can do in a pinch.
Skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing
If winter sports are your thing, snow is your best friend. More snow means epic mountain conditions.
Snowmen, snow angels, and snow forts
Snow really does bring out the kid in all of us. My daughter could spend hours in our own backyard building snowmen and digging tunnels in the snow drifts. But let’s be honest – I’m usually having just as much fun as she is.
Bundling up in cozy snow gear is fun
I have a bit of a scarf problem. As in, I own dozens of them. And the more snow days we get, the more reasons I have to wrap myself up in a scarf, toque, and mitts, and head outside feeling cozy and warm.
Bundling up and staying inside is equally as fun
There’s no better time to sit inside with a blanket, a steaming cup of hot chocolate, and watch the snow fall from the comfort of your living room. Not a hot chocolate fan? Can I tempt you with a cider, coffee, mulled wine, or a hot toddy? Pick your warm beverage of choice and get comfortable on the couch!
So, bring it on snow! I’m ready to revel in the winter wonderland for just a little longer.
