At the end – or sometimes right smack in the middle – of a long day, there’s nothing better than a good bath. It’s soothing, it’s quiet, and it’s just for me. It’s the perfect mini retreat I can take in my very own bathroom. Except, we only have one bathroom in the house I share with my daughter and husband. And that bathroom contains one standard size tub that’s not really built for anyone over five feet to properly stretch out in. So privacy and comfort are somewhat compromised. But I’ve concocted the perfect recipe to make it feel like every bath I take is in a private hotel-sized soaker tub. Here it is…
A little change in lighting can do a lot. Dim the lights, or turn them off altogether, and light a few scented (or unscented if that’s your thing) candles. The soft flickering glow really helps to set the mood.
Something to read or listen to
Maybe you prefer to just sit with your thoughts, but I have a hard time relaxing when my grocery list is running through my head. I like to bring whatever book I’m currently working on to the bath so I can get lost in it. If I’m not in a reading mood, I’ll turn on some chill music or catch up on a podcast. Both options are great at drowning out whatever noises my toddler might be making on the other side of the bathroom door.
All the bath products!
Bubble bath, bath salts, bath bombs, essential oils, artisan soaps… Take your pick, or go crazy and use them all! I’m a sucker for anything that smells good or comes in a fancy looking container. It makes your everyday bath feel that much more luxurious.
The beverage of your choice
For me, it’s wine. I’m not that picky about the colour or varietal, any decent sized glass will do.
A closed door
This is the key. The make it or break it factor for my perfect bath. I don’t need toddlers, husbands, or dogs, intruding on my moment of peace. Close that door, lock it if you have to, and don’t open it until you’re ready to re-enter the world.
And that’s it! My perfect bath. What’s in your recipe?
