I’m lucky to live in the middle of the mountains with endless hiking trails and opportunities. One of my favourite things to do on the weekend is lace up my boots, strap my unruly toddler into a backpack, and take a hike! My two crazy dogs get to run free and wild, my husband and I challenge ourselves to keep a quick pace, and we all get to enjoy the view at the top. Here’s a few reasons why I believe hiking is the best possible way to strengthen your body and mind at the same time.
There’s nothing better than a breath of crisp mountain air. Whether you live in the city, the suburbs, or the middle of nowhere, it’s got serious benefits. A big gulp of fresh air cleans your lungs, bringing more oxygen to the cells, and improving their overall cleansing action. That good old oxygen can also bring much needed clarity to your brain.
Provides a great full-body workout
It’s easy to get lost in the beauty of the trail and forget how hard you’re body is working, but hiking is a powerful cardio workout. It’s a weight bearing exercise, which helps improve bone density. It boosts your blood pressure and blood sugar levels, while lowering your risk of heart disease. And it works just about every part of your body – from your glutes and hamstrings, to your hips and core.
The view at the top.
No matter how hard the climb, the view at the top makes it all worth it. To me, the best part is reaching that breathtaking reward, taking in a few peaceful moments, and refuelling with a quick snack before we begin our descent. Getting a good look at nature isn’t just pretty, it can do wonders for your overall well being. Immersing yourself in nature increases pleasant feelings, and reduces feelings of anger, stress, and fear.Nothing beats the view at the top of a good hike. #motivation #letsmove Click To Tweet
