I’m a runner, a weightlifter, and an occasional yogi. Some days my workout is chasing my toddler or playing with my dogs. I like to mix it up, but whatever I’m doing to get moving, there’s one thing that I’m consistent about. Stretching.
It doesn’t matter how active you are, or your preferred form of exercise, stretching is essential. To me, it’s non-negotiable. Here’s why…
Increases your flexibility and prevents injury
Stretching keeps your muscles loose and limber, something that comes in handy not just with exercise, but with a lot of every day tasks as well. It will help you reach a little bit higher to the top shelf and bend that much easier when tying your shoelaces. Regular stretching will also boost your balance and range of motion by keeping your tendons and ligaments lubricated. This is turn increases your agility and movement.
Ever find yourself ready to fall asleep by the time you hit savasana at the end of a good yoga class? Holding a gentle stretch can instantly calm and relax your whole body and mind. I find a few stretches before bed helps me snooze easier when my head hits the pillow. Stretching can also act as a stress reliever by easing and loosening tight muscles.
Improves your posture
I’ve lost track of how many times my Mom told me to sit up straight when I was kid. Maybe that’s what got me so into stretching in the first place. Tight muscles lead to bad posture. Taking the time to stretch those muscles improves the alignment in your back and naturally improve your posture. Make sure you focus on stretches that target your chest, shoulders, and lower back to reap all those good posture benefits.Stretch it out and reap the benefits! #motivation #letsmove Click To Tweet
Take the time to stretch every single day, even just for a few minutes, and I promise you’ll notice a difference!
