We all have chores to do. If we are living alone or living at home, there are always things to do and clean around the home. Why not take that chance to workout at the same time? You’d be surprised at how many chores can double as exercises. Chores such as vacuuming, doing laundry, carrying groceries, cleaning bathrooms and stovetops can be a great workout.
Vacuuming can be a lot of work in itself. We have to push it around, bring it up and down stairs. We have to move furniture to get into all the nooks and crannies of our homes. If you want to add a bit more effort into it, try lifting instead of pushing the furniture around your home! You can try lunging with each forward push of the vacuum and repeat when taking a step back.
Doing laundry can be a sedentary chore. When you are putting away freshly dried clothes, try squatting to pick up each article of clothing to fold. Don’t forget to squat when loading your clothes into your washing machine or transferring to the dryer.
We all need to get groceries at some point so why not make an exercise out of it. You can incorporate lunges when taking the groceries from your car as well as squats when putting away the food.
Cleaning the bathroom
A thorough cleaning of the bathroom is always a workout. The scrubbing alone is enough to workup a sweat. When wiping and scrubbing, instead of going side to side, try working in concentric circles. Don’t forget to switch between arms when one gets sore! The bathtub can be the worse part so go easy on yourself if you start getting exhausted.
Cleaning the stove
Scrubbing down the stove is another good upper body workout. It works best if you have a greasy, food-caked stove. Just be mindful of the ports for gas as well as the spark for each stove top if you have a gas stove. Try a mix of scrubbing back and forth as well as side to side to exercise your entire arm and upper-body. Don’t forget to keep your core tight!
If you are starting off your day by doing some cleaning, why not turn it into a workout! You can always hit the gym or do some home workouts if you didn’t get enough.
